Why English is A Must ???

Aku pernah mengajukan pertanyaan tentang ini di kelas. “ Why English is a must ? “ ! Karena pengin tahu .. Kenapa Bahasa Inggris ditetapkan sebagai Bahasa Internasional, hampir setiap dunia sebelum Globalisasi ( 2010 ), setiap negara, setiap sekolah, harus belajar dan mengajarkan Bahasa Inggris sebagai Bahasa Internasional.

Bahkan Indonesia aja yang 3,5 abad dijajah Belanda, juga diwajibkan bisa Bahasa Inggris bukan wajib bisa Bahasa Belanda. Aku mendapat jawaban dari sang guru sebagai berikut ::

The history of the world is the history of victors. English started to become an international language when it colonised the greater part of the world whether through conquest, occupation or emigration (the US was a British colony; Australia, New Zealand and Canada are still part of the British Commonwealth; India (plus Pakistan), Malaysia and Singapore were former colonies; a big chunk of Africa was colonised by the Brits; Hong Kong used to belong to the UK as was Kuwait etc.) Put together, that's a lot of people round the world who speak English; people who need to trade, do business with and communicate with one another. Meanwhile, what we now know as global culture and technology derive mainly from American (English speaking) and British innovations (entertainment industry, media, music, IT and social network), literature, arts, drama. Of course, the majority of the world's repository of knowledge, art, sciences and technology are written in English. That is why it's important to understand the language. Otherwise we would be limited in our understanding and access to the riches that the world has to offer. Our contribution to life and the world would also be limited. We would be like an illiterate lost in a library...

Aku sudah belajar Bahasa Inggris sejak kelas dua SD, mulai seneng Bahasa Inggris sejak SMU dan hampir tiga bulan ikut kelas “ English with Desi Anwar “, aku baru kepikiran mengajukan pertanyaan itu sebulan lalu dan langsung mendapat jawaban yang cukup “ Brighter My Mind “ .. Hehe ..

Sekarang udah tahu dan makin semangat belajar .. Tapi karena udah masuk zaman Globalisasi ( 2010 ), Bahasa lain selain Bahasa Inggris juga cukup menarik untuk dipelajari seperti misal Bahasa Jepang atau Bahasa Pemrograman .. Hehehe ..
